The Black Hills Youth Orchestra was organized in 2025  to give talented musicians of the Black Hills the opportunity to extend their orchestral performance. The BHYO prioritizes access for all, offering tuition-free ensembles, lesson and instrument scholarships, and mentorship and support that extends beyond music performance. Membership is open to string students of all ages. Enrolled students are placed in an ensemble based on their past experience and playing ability. Each ensemble rehearses once a week and performs three or more times a year. More information about ensembles can be found on our Ensembles and Auditions page.
