To remain eligible for the BHYO, students must participate in a large ensemble in the instrumental music program at their school. This school ensemble must support the instrument the student plays in the BHYO. If a student cannot participate in the instrumental music program at their school on the instrument they play for the BHYO, they may fulfill the requirement by...

... participating in the instrumental program at a different school on the instrument they play for the BHYO

OR

... participating in the instrumental program at their school on an instrument they do not play for the BHYO. 
 

** The eligibility requirement for participation may be waived for one semester during a student's high school career. This would normally be due to an academic graduation requirement conflict or a conflict caused by an academic course sequence. BHYO personnel must receive proof from a high school counselor that no other options exist for the student to fill the course requirement and enroll in instrumental music. **
