Mission and Vision
​The Black Hills Youth Orchestra seeks to enrich the lives of youth in the Black Hills area through music performance and education, mentorship, and collaborative partnerships. Our vision is to inspire young lives through music by breaking down barriers and increasing access to high-level instrumental training throughout the Black Hills community.
Music Performance
Enrolled students participate in weekly large ensemble rehearsals throughout the school year, performing in local and regional concerts. Collaborative performances with schools and universities gives students the opportunity to build connections, travel, and expand their horizons.
Mentorship
The Black Hills Youth Orchestra supports students beyond music, helping them navigate academic and personal challenges. While music brings us together, our team is dedicated to providing the support and resources they need to build the futures they deserve — including tuition assistance, lesson scholarships, affordable instrument rentals, and mentors who help with schoolwork, life skills, goal setting, and applications for scholarships, jobs, and college.
Partnerships
The staff and board of the Black Hills Youth Orchestra will use their experience and community connections to build strong partnerships with local and regional organizations. By working together with schools, universities, and nonprofits, we aim to create a thriving network of music education and student support throughout the Black Hills and beyond.
