About the BHYO
The Black Hills Youth Orchestra was organized in 2025 to give members of the Black Hills community the opportunity to expand their musical performance skills. The BHYO prioritizes access for all, offering tuition-free ensembles, lesson and instrument scholarships, and mentorship and support that extends beyond music performance. The BHYO is always accepting new members, and is open to string players of all ages and experience levels. Enrolled students are placed in an ensemble based on their past experience and playing ability. Each ensemble rehearses once a week and performs three or more times a year. More information about ensembles can be found on our Ensembles and Auditions page. Details about upcoming performances can be on our Concerts and Events page.
